Mapdirector lets you transform your GPS tracks into cinematic 3D flyover videos, perfect for showcasing cycling, running, hiking, or other outdoor adventures. Whether you're importing from Strava, Garmin, Polar, Suunto, or another source, the process is quick and intuitive.

This guide will walk you through the basic steps: from uploading your GPS file to downloading your finished video.


✅ What You’ll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A .gpx file from your activity tracking device or app
  • A modern web browser (Mapdirector runs entirely in the browser, no install needed)
  • An internet connection for uploading and rendering

🧭 Step-by-Step: Create a 3D Flyover

Go to app.mapdirector.com in your browser.

  • Click the Upload button and select a .gpx file from your device. This file should contain a recorded route from your GPS tracker or fitness app. Alternatively, you can open an existing project if you have one.

  • Or use one of the quick links to import from popular services like Garmin.

Use the onbaording wizard to pick a screen format and template. You’ll see options for aspect ratios, camera styles, photo overlays, and more.

Once finished with the setup wizard, you can preview the default 3D flyover using the 'Preview' button. You can also customize the look and feel completely.

Once you're happy with the setup, click Render. When the process is complete, download your 3D flyover video and share it with others!

💡 Tips and Tricks

  • Use GPX files for route-only visualizations
  • Use TCX files to include heart rate, cadence, and additional sensor data
  • Try different templates to see which one best fits your activity type
  • You can re-edit and re-render the same route with different styles
